Inventory with Xero

xero-certified-advisor-logo-hires-RGBTaking care of inventory can be one of the most time consuming areas of bookkeeping – and almost every business I’ve worked with has had it’s own unique circumstances to be provided for…

Xero provides simple inventory management software that meets the needs of many users:

In Xero, small businesses can access a simple system providing for up-to-date inventory management, adjustments and reporting.

Some of the key features of inventory in Xero are:

  • the ability to speed up your quotes and invoicing by adding inventory items to reduce manual data entry, all while tracking your purchases and sales
  • gaining better control over what you buy and sell by easily tracking your quantities on hand
  • as the balance sheet it always updated, you can get a real-time value of your stock on hand at the click of a button
  • easily see which stock items are being sold (and their profitability)…and which items are costing you money to hold on to!

Having said that, if your inventory requirements are more complex, there are options available via the “Add-on market” – the add-on market will be discussed in a later post, but if you are interested to find out more, please get in Contact.

Koh Samui…a touch of paradise…

IMG_0734As I mentioned in Wednesday’s blog post…I’ve been in Koh Samui…

Actually, by the time this post is published, I’ll have also called into Singapore and hopefully I will have just landed at Tullamarine Airport!

The sole purpose of this trip was to celebrate the wedding of our good friends A and T – we had a lovely day and I hope they did too!

The attached picture was the view from my futon overlooking the pool and the sea, and a stones throw from the poolside bar – doesn’t get much better than this!

Despite there being plenty of activities to do around Koh Samui, with my 5 month old niece in tow, we decided to stay pretty close to our resort, Anantara Lawana Resort and Spa – we ventured into town for some shopping and played some golf nearby – but just soaking up the sun and the warmth was enough after our very long and very cold Victorian winter!

I’ll be sure to post some pictures of Singapore to my Facebook page for you to see…

Now I better get back to work – thankyou to my clients for your patience while I’ve been away!

Travelling and currency exchange…

dollar signGoodness me, my head hurts….no, not because I’ve had too many cocktails by the pool…rather because I’ve done too many sums in my head!

I’m currently on the island Koh Samui in Thailand and am thoroughly enjoying being the “nanny” for my gorgeous niece.

But for some reason everyone looks at me to work out the conversion of Thai Baht to Australian Dollars if the amount is a bit of a strange one..do you suppose this is because I’m an accountant or because I’ve been known to carry a calculator in my handbag??

I think I’ve got it sorted, if we drop the last two numbers off the Baht and multiply what’s left by 4 then we’re in the ball park (i.e.: 400 Baht equals approximately $16 AUD)

At least it will be easier when we head to Singapore since the Singapore dollar equals approximately one Australian dollar – I’ve got that one covered!

What’s that?? Oh yes, the pool is calling my name again, have a great day!

Go mobile with Xero

xero-certified-advisor-logo-hires-RGBI’m sure by now you realise that Xero sits in the cloud – this enables users to access the software from wherever they are as long as they have an internet connection…but there are many other benefits to being mobile!

You can use Xero’s mobile apps to manage your business while you’re on the move. Including reconciling, sending invoices and creating expense claims simply by using your iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone.

Being mobile translates into saving time – and I’m always a fan of saving time, here’s how:

  • it’s not compulsory to reconcile your bank everyday, but Xero makes it easy to do so, you can get a clear picture of your business at the start of the day – even before you get out of bed!
  • send an invoice as soon as the job is done while you’re out and about instead of waiting until you get back to the office – quite often that invoice the client/customer receives in their inbox after they’ve received great service will be one of the first to be paid – and there’s less chance you forget to send the invoice if you do it straight away…
  • if you’ve ever received an invoice payment reminder from The Tax Chic, there’s a good chance it was sent while I was out on a coffee break!  You too can follow up any outstanding invoices while you’re on the move or having coffee (just don’t forget to invite me for coffee!)
  • if you pay for something from your own funds, there’s no need to hunt for receipts – simply take pictures of receipts on the go and create expense claims all from your mobile

See?  Xero really is a time saver – try it for free!
